weekend

My newest obsession is really cooking... I made an enormous pot of chicken stock and then made split pea soup with it. Then I made a frittata with bacon and onions. Then I made pasticio for C and J, who came over to watch the Oscars. Their pooch Cubby is Sparks' sweetheart. Doesn't he have good taste? She is sooo cute.
I also made a batch of shortbread cookies and added in a whole bunch of fun stuff. Apricots and pistachios, cranberries and orange, lemon and poppyseeds, and chopped pecans. Yum.
However, I didn't get too much work done...so I gotta go do that.

My teeny tiny kitchen

I really like to cook. I am not a wonderful baker; I fantasize about being a wonderful baker. But I like to cook- digging around and figuring out that I can also throw together a salad. And I especially love tallying how much of my dinner is from the greenmarket. This weekend the guys at the meat tent, where I get local grass fed beef, gave me a free container of bison broth. I made my first Onion soup with it. Oh my gosh- it was soooo good. All it is onions and butter cooked for 30 min, then add a little red (or white) wine, then broth and salt and pepper...easy! I also made coffee and chipolte chile braised short ribs a la Mark Bittman, served with mashed potatoes and greens. We had a nice long weekend and were very spoiled by the quiet and nothingtodoness.
The aftermath...
Look at his freshly washed puffy butt!

They are taking over the world!

This gorgeous Aussie won the Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club in NYC. She will hopefully win it all in Best in Show tomorrow night. AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERDS RULE! Click box below for a link to the pretty red merle aussie!

Very Busy

School has started up again and my schedule is really full. But all my classes are interesting and exciting. However, we haven't been doing very many fun or blog-worthy things, as on the weekends I primarily want to do nothing. So I thought I would post some pics of Mr. Cuteness doing his favorite things.
Running....

Chewing....
Playing in the snow...
This winter we have not had any significant snow and that has been very sad.
